How Twitter will revolutionize the bus system

I have no idea if this is already implemented anywhere in the world but I tried a quick search and didn’t find it.

This is how Twitter will make bus transportation infinitely better.

Here’s the plan. PAT, please take note.

The first step is going through every bus line and selecting 10-15 major bus stops. This, by the way, has already been more or less done in the bus line brochures (links to PDF).

The second step is to enable each of those major bus stops and each bus with a sensor and a device capable of going online. Could be wi-fi, a mobile network or whatever… it’s all the same.

Third step is every one of those stops gets its own twitter account. Hello, @FifthandHighland, welcome to Twitter!

Fourth step is every time a bus goes by one these stops, the stop itself twitters the time of day and the number of the bus.

So it’s nine in the morning and I’m checking my e-mails. My twitter client pops up and says: Fifth+Highland: 9:01 am, 500 bus.

So I grab my bag and go to work, catching the bus right on time, just like we all love to do.

And we all lived happily ever after.
